Australia - Former champion waterskier Lauryn Eagle has been slammed for her choice of opponent in her second pro boxing outing this Sunday, 31 October in Sydney.
Eagle, a regular beauty paegant contestant in addition to her sporting duties, takes on unheralded New Zealander Christina Tai on the undercard of the Daniel Geale vs Roman Karmazin IBF middleweight eliminator. Critics have taken aim at Eagle for being merely a “sideshow”.
”She’s a novice. The degree to which they’re pushing her doesn’t match her ability. Boxing insiders generally regard Eagle as a sideshow that has nothing to do with pro boxing or the advancement of the sport,” said Mike Altamura, a boxing manager out of Western Australia.
